Hello friends, We (Becca Briggs, Anna Hembury and Liz Dorton of Murmuration) would love you to come to  TENDER GAZE,  an event at Hull Minster this December 1st and 2nd at 7pm….PUPPETS….  an angel of mirrors, a black Mary, a dislocated old priest, shadow puppet wombs!LIVE MUSIC…. local opera singer, classical musicians,  bespoke electronic soundscapes PAINTINGS and POEMS…. abstract, iconic, earthy…. Comedic and reflective.  Come and see…..

Here’s the official blurb………

Puppets, live music, spoken word, paintings…..

Tender Gaze is a powerful re-telling of Luke’s description of the uncommon pregnancies of Mary and her aunt Elizabeth.

This will be an immersive meditation centred around a triptych: Heard – Fiat – Leap. ‘Heard’ recounts Zacharias’ dumbfounding encounter with an angel; ‘Fiat’ is an interpretation of Mary’s ‘Yes’ to God; and ‘Leap’ captures the moment when Mary and Elizabeth, both miraculously pregnant, greet each other.

The local group Murmuration offers these three meditations as the core of a flexible act of worship, including music, art and spoken word. Inspired by ancient Coptic art and the Mexican ‘Our lady of Guadalupe’, Tender Gaze uses life size puppets, words of scripture, the music of Taverner’s ‘Song of the Angel’ as well as specially composed pieces. The work is in itself an act of trust, of fiat, a collaboration between amateur and professional local people. The music will be performed by classical musicians Denarius, composer Simon Vincent and opera singer Joyee Cole and the event includes exhibited paintings by Sonya Cowan and Katy Murphie.

Tender Gaze provides opportunity: to pause at the beginning of Advent; to step away from the noise (inside and outside our heads) and immerse ourselves in beauty and wonder; to explore some of the heartache, doubt, risk and trust at the edges of the Christmas story; to allow ourselves to consider themes of being heard, being seen, being empty,  being filled and finding purpose in a bigger story.
