Board Game Afternoons

Board Game Afternoons are for adults and families who enjoy board games – and by that we mean not just the traditional Scrabble and Monopoly, but also the newer more complex board games like Carcassone, and Ticket to Ride – and well much newer still…the list goes on and on.

WHAT FORM WILL IT TAKE?

The afternoons run from 3:00-5:00pm. We’ll start with brief introduction and one of the leaders might seed a brief question for conversations. We’ll have an opportunity to share news, and if appropriate offer a short prayer for those on our hearts. The remainder of the time will be dedicated to playing board games. We’ll serve cake, hot drinks and squash throughout, and invite the parents to be on a rota to supply cake each week.

CAN ANYONE JOIN?

The majority of our board games are aimed at adults, and children seven and above, although if families wish to bring younger children that is okay, as long as they supervise them. We have a mixture of pretty complex games, and relatively straightforward, short games, suitable for most ages.

HOW MUCH IS IT?

We are aiming to make a small donation to the church for the use of the room, and ideally have a surplus over and above this to supply hot drinks and to purchase new games. A freewill offering will be taken with this in mind.

SO I NEED TO BRING A BOARD GAME?

We’ve accumulated a good number of games, but if you have a favourite, however, feel free to bring it along. Please bear in mind our time constraints. If there is a game you think we should purchase, let us know, and when we have some money we’ll aim to do so.

CONTACT US

As we mentioned, it would be really helpful if you could let us know you are coming, so we can cater appropriately. To do so, or for other queries, please contact Andy on (01904)784545 or email using the contact form.

Suggested donation £1 for adults and children (free for under 7's)

Sunday Zoom Bible Study Worship

@

On the first Sunday of the Month, 10:30am you are invited to join a partnership between the Kairos Movement, Andy’s churches in York, and those who are part of the digital diaspora which developed over lockdown! We join for a time of Bible Study.

We’ll start with a stripped down gathering, centred on the bible, but as things develop, we’ll learn how we want to develop our gathering and worship.

Each Sunday, we aim to walk through the E100 New Testament Essential Bible Readings, as a series. Andy will offer some brief reflections and background to the readings, as we read through them together and prompt some discussion as we do so.

It is not our intent that this forms the defacto worship or gathering for Kairos, in fact just the opposite. We hope rather than new forms organically (and less traditional and Sunday focussed!) emerge from our small groups. In fact, we arguably have already worshipped in our walking and deep talking! This time together instead builds on a new form of gathering in Andy’s churches during lockdown, and for some it is a place of difference from their traditional diet. We are simply offering it to Kairos as an initial option within our developing spiritual diet for ‘Breathing-In’ and an early opportunity to gather and work out how we might work together to shape our communal gatherings and worship.

To join us in Sunday you’ll to click the zoom link, or enter the meeting details below, but you are welcome to do so any time we meet. We look forward to meeting you.

Soul Space gathering – Hope

It looks like we’ll need to be on line for our January gathering, so we’d like to co- create a multimedia Soul Space that we will offer live on line at 11am (& record so people can access it another time).

Please come with images, art work, poems, songs, thoughts to share on the theme of hope and we will spend an hour and half together curating our Soul Space together.

Sunday Worship

January 9 @ 10:30 am 11:30 am GMT

Sundays at Southlands are back to being hosted in the church building. Occasionally we stream a speaker, or even an entire service from either our circuit, or our sister church in Acomb, but will do so gathered together. If you are unable to attend in person, then we suggest joining Acomb Methodist church, whose services are held both on Zoom and in person. The services start at 10:30am and last around an hour. Following the service you are enouraged to stay and chat and share a hot drink and biscuits.

January 2nd 2022

On January 2nd we’ll be looking at Matthew 3.13-4:17 together. We’ll walk through the text, so dont panic about reading it in advance, but do bring a bible, or use biblegateway on your device (https://www.biblegateway.com)

It is not our intent that this forms the defacto worship or gathering for Kairos, in fact just the opposite.
